Some statistics claim that you have a 40% better chance of survival with working fire detectors in place. The National Fire Prevention association states that nearly a third of household fire detectors are not in working condition due to the lack of user maintenance. Smoke inhalation, not burns, is the leading cause of household fire related death. Detectors should be checked once a month and should have the batteries changed every 6 months or so. They should be placed on each level, on ceilings or upper walls, and near sleeping quarters. A little effort goes a long way to saving lives and your Georgetown real estate; not to mention not having a home and dealing with the insurance company.

Sub-prime mortgages have higher costs and rates due to the risk of their borrowers’ ability to pay them back. Some lenders are prime mortgage lenders, some are sub-prime and others deal with both. If possible, your best bet to save money is to go with a prime rate mortgage. Your credit score will largely determine whether or not you will qualify for one. The higher your credit score the lower risk you are, and vice versa, to a lender. It shows you are responsible with your debt. To get the best rates and not taken advantage of here are some quick tips:

Do your homework!!!
- Learn about mortgage loans
- Find out your credit score, what affects it, and how to improve it
- Do research on your lender. They may be a sub-prime lender and not even tell you. You could be a prime rate borrower but get suckered into a deal with a clever talking lender.
If you are denied by one prime lender then try another. Not all have the same exact filtering criteria.
Do not necessarily take the first offer, shop around a bit.

Georgetown has a rich, vibrant history. Originally inhabited by Native Americans, the first European settlers begin setting up posts in the mid 17th century. Throughout the 18th century Georgetown was a thriving seaport and no stranger to pirates like the infamous "Blackbeard." Indigo was the area's cash crop for a period of time but rice became their bread winner. The fresh water rivers and marshes provided Georgetown with an optimal environment for their rice crops and the area eventually became one of the wealthiest in the nation by the beginning of the 19th century. Elegant plantations and their upscale societies sprouted during this era. However the banning of slavery and numerous hurricanes at the turn of the 20th century ended their rice harvesting era.

Today Georgetown has a population of approximately 9,000 and is known for their fine cuisine and seafood. It is a Southern city with all the charm and hospitality that goes with it.
